Several club members spent a very worthwhile and interesting Wednesday evening learning how to support people with visual impairment (VI) in running. The course was delivered by UK Athletics (the lovely Tess Ptonka) and helped Sarah Rickard, Rob Dixon (pictured left) and Daniel Taylor learn how to act as guide runners.
The training included theory as well as some rather scary practice on the track at Sports City involving blindfolds (no jokes please!), and everyone who took part came away with a greater respect and appreciation for those living with an impairment.
We hope that our VI members will benefit from our wider pool of guides who also plan to support the local Parkrun and non MFR VI runners if needed.
