We will be taking part in the stunning Midnight Run on Thursday 21st June during the summer solstice when the sun doesn’t properly set! London Frontrunners did this last year and had a great time!
There are 5k,10k and half options and the entry cost is £20-£30 based on last year. The route starts in a valley near Reykjavik, goes out into the beautiful surrounding countryside and all entrants get free admission to the geothermal swimming pool afterwards.
Reykjavík is well known for its nightlife and there are loads of bars, restaurants and clubs. All bars are gay friendly as Iceland is so liberal but there is a gay club too called KIKI! Beer isn’t cheap but many bars do happy hours from 4-7 when drinks compare to UK prices. Having the run on Thursday also means we’ve loads of time afterwards to explore – so many places to visit such as the Blue Lagoon, Viking museums and Skogafoss waterfall.
We suggest getting the 0630 Easyjet flight from Manchester on Weds 20th June returning on the 0900 EasyJet flight on Sunday 24th June. Flights are currently £69.98 return
Accommodation in Reykjavik is fairly standard for a city. A double/twin room in the Peace Centre hostel is currently £91/night per room or if you fancy a decent hotel with brekkie the Fosshotel Baron have double/twin rooms for about £150/night per room. These are just examples from a quick search, AirBnb may have some great options!
Hope this all sounds good! Entries to the race now open and sell out quickly so you’d need to be ready to book soon to avoid disappointment.
